Popular Books For The Beach

We recently took to our Facebook page for recommendations for books to read on the beach. And we must say, our fans came up with some pretty good recommendations. We’ve compiled a fun list of books for you to read while on the beach. And yes, we do recommend that you hold an actual book in your hand. Tablets are great to have along while traveling, but leave them in your room once you head to the beach.Sand lodged in crevices in a tablet is never a good thing. A book is much easier to hold onto and there’s something to be said about holding an actual book in your hand while enjoying our sandy, sunny beach.

The Perfume Collector by Kathleen Tessaro was recommended by Mary Ann.

This looks to be a good beach read, as it contains secrets, desire, memory, passion and possibility. Any book that offers desire and more makes this one of our favorite choices.

Carroll recommended Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich.

Another #1 New York Times Bestseller from Janet Evanovich. This novel is all you can expect. This makes a good beach read, as it’s filled with excitement and guaranteed to pull you in from page one.

Another great suggestion for a book to read on the beach was from Suzanne. She recommended The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.

This book was selected for The Oprah Book Club 2.0 pick on December 10, 2013. Invention of Wings is a masterpiece of hope, daring, the quest for freedom, and  a desire to have a voice in the world.

One of our recent guests was reading James Patterson’s Second Honeymoon and commented it was a book they could not put down.

James Patterson’s books are full of adventure, suspense, and action packed. This one looks to be just as thrilling as all of his other books.

Do you have a favorite book to read while on the beach? If so, we’d love to hear about it! Leave us a comment on our Facebook page, we’d love to share it with our guests.

Family Vacation On The Horizon? Tips On Making It Affordable

Let’s face it, a family vacation can be expensive. One of the first things you need to do is map out your destination and determine your budget. If your destination is a little far, your transportation costs can be cut by finding a location closer to home. The summer travel season is quickly approaching and now is the time to make your plans.

Set a Budget

Triposo is a great app to install. It is super user friendly. Users are allowed to key in their area and set a budget as to how much money they have to spend.

By setting your budget before you and your family head out the door, you will all have a much more enjoyable vacation.

Cook Some Of Your Own Meals

Many properties offer kitchenettes which provide microwaves, refrigerators, and cook tops. This can help you save money, as you will not have to eat out every single meal. Once you check into your resort, ask at the front desk where the nearest grocery store is. The folks that work the front desk know the area and can give you great recommendations.

Here at Tuckaway Shores Oceanfront Resort our guests can use our Big Green Egg while staying with us.

Again, making your family vacation affordable and offering tasty food that your family will love! It’s a great idea to plan for at least one local meal out and about while on vacation. Everyone loves to try out the local flavors while on vacation and deserves one night off from cooking.

Get Outdoors

Running around outdoors does not cost anything! Beach front property offers the perfect reason to put away the electronics and break out a frisbee or two. Property that sits in the mountains offers abundant hiking trails. Walking, jogging, bicycle riding, and even fishing are inexpensive ways to have an affordable family vacation.

If you do opt to go fishing, make sure you know the rules in regards to licensing.

Set your budget, cook some of your own meals, and get ready to experience the great outdoors! If you do these three things, you and your family can have an affordable family vacation. Summer vacation season is just around the corner and now is the time to determine your destination. Your kids will not remember how much your vacation cost. What they will remember is the time that you took to spend with them, and that is what matters the most.

How To Stay Sane While Traveling A Holiday Week-end

Everyone loves to get away when a long holiday week-end rolls around. Chances are, you are one of those folks. We have some tips to help you stay sane while traveling over one of these holiday week-ends. Holidays are a great reason to get out of town and a time to reconnect with family and friends and Tuckaway still has some availability for Easter next month.

Make Reservations Early

Did you know that many rooms are booked months in advance for holiday week-ends? So, once you have decided to travel over a holiday week-end, decide on your location and book your room as soon as possible. This will avoid any disappointment as the time gets closer.

Know Your Travel Budget

One of the quickest ways to lose your sanity while on vacation is to find out you are flat out broke! Make a travel budget before you leave home, preferably when you book your vacation. This will allow you to plan and know what extra activities you will be able to afford to do. Trail Wallet is a user friendly budget app for iPhone users, one worth checking out.

If your budget is tight, check with the Convention and Visitors Bureau of your destination to see what free events are happening over the holiday week-end. Many local communities do have free events during peak travel times. To stay sane, connect with them before you leave home! This can help you and your family save some money, yet have a great time on your holiday week-end.

Pack Your Patience

Patience is one of those things that you must have along with you when you venture out on any holiday week-end. Airports are busy and highways are packed! If you can drive at odd times of the day, such as 10 p.m. to 5 a.m., that will help. Congestion on highways is not fun and can easily make the road trip a disaster in a short period of time. Pack healthy snacks and plenty of bottled water to keep everyone content and sane. Be sure to arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight takes off. Security lines can be long and stressful for everyone. Again, pack your patience!

When you book early, know your budget and pack your patience, you can stay sane while traveling over a holiday week-end. After all, wouldn’t you agree that your travel time will make views like this worth all your travel woes?
